Snagov and Mogosoaia

In the morning, you will be met by your private guide at your hotel and start your tour.
First, you will drive for about 45 minutes outside of Bucharest, to a village called Mogosoaia. It was here that, in the early 1700’s, Constantin Brancoveanu, the King of Wallachia, built a residence for his family, called the Mogosoaia Palace.
Brancoveanu was, until his execution at Istanbul in 1714, a patron of fine arts, and the time of his rule is rightly seen as a "Romanian Rennaissance". He brought masters from countries with a well established tradition in building, and a new architectural style was born. An intriguing mixture of Rennassaince and Oriental styles, this blend is nowadays known as "Brancovenesc" style.
The Mogosoaia Palace is a fine example of this architectural style. The building is not particularly big, resembling a comfortable house rather than an actual palace. Not visited by many tourists, it can offer you a welcome escape from the noisy downtown area.
Guided visit of the palace is included.

Next, we head to the Northern part of the city, to the Snagov lake. Here, on an island in the middle of the lake, we find a beautiful 16th century monastery, made famous by the legend according to which, in front of the altar, the infamous Vlad the impaler - Dracula is buried.
Vlad was indeed killed in the vicinity, while battling a group of Turks, and the rumor has it that his body was brought to the monks of the monastery, and they were the ones that gave him a proper burial. However, archaeological excavation done on the site in the 1930’s found the tomb to be empty. This fact was also one of the reasons for which the "Dracula the Vampire" myths caught momentum. Be that as it may, the space in front of the altar is indeed marked as Vlad’s grave.
The monastery is only accesible by a small boat. You will enjoy a guided tour of the church, and then, your private guide will escort you back to your hotel.
